One of the key current challenges in distributed computing and networking is that of providing scalable service and content delivery to large numbers of heterogeneous clients. Meeting this challenge requires protocols and systems that are able to "scale-up" in a performance and cost-effective manner. The proposed research concerns the design and performance evaluation of such protocols and systems, as well as the measurement and characterization of existing large-scale Internet services.
