项目摘要

During the past two decades, odour emission from intensive animal production farms has topped the list of public concerns due to their environmental impact and potential health impact on neighbouring residents. Maintaining appropriate separation (setback) distances is an economic and effective way of mitigating odours. So far there is no setback model that can give convincing result. The top two reasons are a) the livestock odour properties have not been well understood and the relationships of the odour concentration and intensity were not obtained with reliable approaches thus the odour dispersion models that predict odour concentrations cannot be validated against field receptor measured odour intensities, and b) there are not science-based community odour impact criteria so the setback cannot be determined.
