The project will create a mathematical model for the optimal location of distribution centres for a large Canadian company. The model will take into account existing suppliers (manufacturers) to the distribution centres and existing outlets to be provisioned by the distribution centres. The solution of the mathematical model will determine where the distribution centres will be built and at what capacity level. The solution will also determine the set of outlets to be provisioned by each centre and how the manufacturers will supply each distribution centre. The final product will be a decision support system that will enable high level decision making through scenario analysis with analytical and mapped outputs. The completion of this project will enhance Canadian competitiveness providing for continued economic growth.
