MacEwan University, working with industry partner Terra Notes Ltd. Geophysics, will create a numerical software that addresses the exploration industry's need quality analysis of large-scale geophysical surveys offshore and remote regions of the globe. Currently, the exploration industry is making greater use of airborne surveys to cover very large regions but can only effectively analyze small datasets of magnetic geological survey data. The software resulting from this project will deliver the same quality of interpretation for large datasets as is currently obtained using commercial software for small datasets, in a computationally efficient approach. TerraNotes Ltd Geophysics provides advanced technologies to extract information from various geophysical data, including processing, analysis, inversion, interpretation and mapping of airborne, ground, down hole, and marine data. TerraNotes' services have contributed to the discoveries of new mineral or groundwater deposits for exploration projects located in every province and territory in Canada as well as in seven other countries. The Canadian geophysical exploration industry, including TerraNotes, will greatly benefit from the access to faster, numerically more efficient software created through this project. Moreover, given the importance of the mineral and energy sector in the Canadian economy, a new geophysical software will be of interest to a large national market because it will enhance the exploration industry's ability to compete in the global market and to increase Canadian revenues from export activities.
