项目摘要

Airborne carbonaceous particles with diameters from 10-600 nm have a spectacular impact on global climate and human health. Black carbon (mostly solid combustion byproducts known as "soot") may contribute to global warming almost as much as methane, and this same class of particles is probably responsible for the largest number of air-pollution related deaths. However, the impacts are highly uncertain, partly due to the difficulty of measuring these particles, which have irregular aggregate structures, often with organic coatings.
