Flooding is a terrifying natural disaster to experience. The impacts of flooding include evacuation of people from their homes, damage to private and public properties, interruptions to local businesses and services, agricultural crop devastation and damage to public infrastructure such as roads and bridges. There is growing consensus that the magnitude and frequency and severity of flood events is increasing giving the need for better flood protection methods in the future. This research program is aimed at conducting research to develop new rapidly-deployable flood protection solutions that will better protect citizens and communities against future events as well as develop methods to better evaluate aggressive erosion that takes place during extreme floods that can often cause failure of critical infrastructure such as clay dikes and bridge abutments.
