Energy and the environment are referred to as the main challenges of the 21st century. Photocatalysis is recognized as one of the most important technologies that have the potential to provide solutions to these challenges. Despite recent advances in the photocatalytic processes for energy and environmental applications, due to low photocatalyst efficiency and the lack of appropriate reactor design, this technology has so far had very limited commercial success.
