英文摘要
This proposal requests funds to support four graduate students applying novel x-ray diffraction techniques to solve a variety of timely condensed matter physics problems. The research involves using both the University of Guelph in-house x-ray diffraction infrastructure as well as high performance synchrotron user facilities such as the Canadian Light Source. The group will focus on both applying and developing high resolution powder diffraction, single crystal diffraction, surface diffraction and high-resolution pair distribution function methods. These are all methods that the Kycia group has developed much experience applying over the years and allow them unprecedented atomic resolution of nanoparticle, amorphous and polycrystalline materials. This work has applications related to optoelectronics, magnetic storage, microelectronics, catalysis, and fuel cells. This work is expected to make great progress in the area of x-ray diffraction methods.
