The proposed research is aimed at the development of a hemodynamic study facility that includes the development of ultrasound flow imaging techniques for investigating flow associated with sites of atherosclerotic vascular disease, such as the carotid artery bifurcation. The proposed facility will provide a unique environment for complementary computational modeling and imaging technology development, alongside valuable experimental verification and validation using the gold-standard technique of particle image velocimetry, thus creating a comprehensive facility for investigating hemodynamics. Ultimately, the understanding that will be derived from studies undertaken at the facility will have an impact on the understanding and treatment of vascular diseases.
