Recent human activities (last century) have impacted biogeochemical cycling of major nutrients (carbon and nitrogen) at an unprecedented rate. How these changes will affect ecosystem functions and constrain the response to global climate change is not clear. My program of research aims to investigate, with a multidisciplinary (Chemistry and Biology) perspective, the role of microorganisms and microbial exudates on nutrient exchange at the soil-plant interface to yield new insights into nutrient dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems. This work will strengthen our ability to manage present natural resources and help with implementation of appropriate policies to address the challenge of global climate change.
