Modern hearing aids have limited computational resources, in part due to battery capacity. These limited resources can restrict the utility of these important devices by inhibiting the use of recent developments in computational signal processing. To increase the intelligibility of specific speakers, it is important that automatic speaker identification can be adapted to fit the constraints of modern hearing aids. The core innovation of this research will be to implement modern speaker identification with a minimal computational footprint. This will include minimizing the impact of more sophisticated models of speaker identification that encapsulate environmental and speaker variables.
