We seek funding to acquire a spectrofluorometer to study luminescent properties of new advanced materials and devices in the UV, Vis and near-IR spectral region. The two key features which make the instrument unique for McGill University are coverage of the near-IR region and ability to measure absolute luminescence quantum yields (in the integrating sphere). The latter enables QUANTITATIVE characterization of the emissive properties of solid and inhomogeneous materials as well as (electroluminescent) devices. Furthermore, the combination of these two features in unique in Quebec. The instrument will become a departmental facility, used extensively by research groups of four co-applicants and other members of McGill chemistry and Quebec Center for Self-Assembled Chemical Structures. It will continuously contribute to training of >30 students each year.
