Assessment of materials for designing cables for monitoring temperature and humidity in stored grains

Measured relative humidity (RH) and temperature (T) could be used to calculate grain moisture content inside stored grain bins. IntraGrain developed the technology to connect the T and RH sensors and software to interpret the measured T and RH. To protect the sensors from the harsh grain storage environment, the sensors should be installed inside cables. The proposed study is to determine suitable materials that could be used for the cable. To find the suitable materials, breaking strength, elongation, shrinkage of selected materials at temperatures from -40 to 60 C will be measured. The response time of the sensors inside cable materials will be also determined. Service temperature (maximum and minimum temperatures of the material) and suitable diameter (to withstand load under any storage condition) will be recommended at the end of the study.
