The major focus of my research is to study the function of the protein Plk4 (also known as Sak). Plk4 belongs to a family of proteins that modify the structure of other proteins and hence regulate their activity, function and stability. Plk4 is typically found in dividing mammalian cells and is involved in the regulation of this process. In the past we have generated a Plk4 mutant mouse strain; in these mice the DNA sequence encoding for Plk4 protein has been replaced with a completely different sequence on one allele (normally, there are two alleles for
