The proposed project will assess and quantify the energy transfer from wildland fires. In particular, the study will focus on the energy transfer at the wildland/urban interface relating to fuel-treated and untreated areas and the interaction of wildland/urban interface fires with building structures. The project will also initiate preliminary work on the relative performance of wildfire chemicals (e.g., suppressants and long-term retardants) on forest vegetation. The results of this proposed project will further develop proactive fire control measures, a priori to the occurrence of a fire, for community protection.
