The immediate industry problem at Pacific Particulate Materials (PPM) Ltd. that the proposed project to be supported by this Engage Grant aims to resolve is the lack of a metal matrix composite (MMC) powder that can be deposited by any low-cost, low-pressure, portable cold spray system. The proposed project will be a feasibility study on the development of titanium carbide (TiC)-nickel (Ni) MMC powders that can be deposited by low-pressure cold spraying, without the need to admix mechanically the TiC and Ni as individual powder components. The results of this research study will serve as an initiation point for further studies in the development of powders for low cost, low pressure, portable cold spray systems to fabricate wear and corrosion resistant coatings.
