Market assessment for continuous capacitive ion guide apparatus will be conducted with experts in the field of bioanalytical chemistry and biomedical research. Capacitive deionization (CDI) has become one of the most promising desalination technologies for purifying water with low to moderate amount of salt, because it's robust, energy efficient, and low cost properties. Currently all CDI apparatus use a two-step operation, the electrode charging (deionization of water) step, and the electrode discharge (ion release, electrode regeneration) step. The continuous laminar flow capacitive ion guide apparatus we proposed is a new generation of capacitive ion guide that eliminated the need of the two step operation of the traditional CDI devices, therefore significantly increased the efficiency and makes it useful in wider range of new applications. In our simulated device operations we have demonstrated that charged species can be continuously directed into separate channels. With a smaller volume in these side channels the concentration of the charged species can be significantly enriched. This enrichment operation can be used for sample pre-concentration for ultra trace analytes for biologically important molecules to be analysed by mass spectrometry or any other analytical detectors.
