英文摘要
More people are spending more time away from home, meaning more exposure to emerging and leading-edge digital mobile and contextual outdoor ad¬vertising. The average roundtrip commute in North America is 54 minutes and time spent viewing mobile outdoor advertising increases every day. While the use of digital advertising is exploding and poised in Canada to reach $7.8 billion in revenue in 2015, it has yet to reach the 'communication' level to targeted Canadian consumers. Previous collaboration between the UofA Electrical and Computer Engineering researchers and Digital Fractal Technologies Inc. has resulted in the development of a spatially-intelligent mobile advertising platform (DigiStreamView) for a new level of wireless mobile connectivity modules. The module was designed for emergency services mobile connectivity (e.g. law enforcement, firefighting service, emergency medical service, disaster relief teams, etc.). However, it is realized that it can be successfully used for geo-time-targeted mobile advertising connectivity, thus encompassing the Canadian Advertising Industry as one of its major clients. To date, geo-time targeted mobile (bus, commuter train, taxi, etc.) outdoor advertising technology has never been implemented in North America. This research focus on the development of hardware electronic modules for the targeted advertisement based on a prespecified location, date, time, and neighbourhood demographics on large full-colour bright digital displays on buses, commuter trains, taxis, etc. interiors and exteriors. The custom made electronic modules will power and control a novel display platform that has the capability of searching, sifting, and collecting all relevant information and transfer it onto a mobile display. The displays on and inside the vehicles travelling are wirelessly connected and can be updated simultaneously or individually from the main computer server. The developed prototype will be generic enough that it can be used by the advertising client also to collect data. The platform will be unique and beneficial to many Canadian businesses.
