The ultimate goal of the project is to produce renewable liquid fuels from two abundant greenhouse gases methane and carbon dioxide using a combination dry reforming (DRM) and Fischer-Tropsch (FTS) catalytic processes. The novel concept utilizes three innovative Canadian technologies under bench-scale development that, when combined together in one process, will provide 100% renewable jet fuel, diesel, naphtha, and ethanol fuels, from corn and a variety of non-food-grade feedstock. In addition to the obvious renewable nature of the fuel products from the proposed process due to the type of feedstock to be utilized, the process make use of the carbon dioxide from ethanol manufacturing and anaerobic digestion as one of the carbon sources for the gas-to-liquid conversion, leading to significant improvement of the carbon footprint and economics of the fuel production.
