Phantom Motion, a company in Winnipeg, is presently involved in the development of realistic physical models for surgical training. Once developed, the technology can be taken to market to solve the current issue of insufficient access to cadaveric training materials. There are two research issues for which the company is currently seeking technical solutions in order to bring their product closer to commercialization: (i) augmenting their synthetic bone technology to include virtual soft tissue and (ii), integrating an onboard computer capable of gathering appropriate metrics for trainee surgeon evaluation.
