Light emitting diodes and pulsing systems for next generation optogenetic tools

Mightex is a Toronto-based biophotonics company with a strong interest in the field of optogenetics. This is a new and rapidly developing field in which light is used to control genetically modified targets ("optogenetic tools") inside living animals. There is great excitement in the scientific community about the power of optogenetic approaches for understanding complex neurological diseases such as schizophrenia and autism. Mightex wishes to adapt or develop technology to keep pace with next generation optogenetic tools. The Woolley lab is developing these optogenetic tools (called "opto-drugs") for light controlled action on specific proteins in the brain. This proposal seeks to bring together researchers in the Woolley lab and engineers from Mightex to modify and optimize Mightex BioLED and Intellipusling equipment for the control of opto-drugs.
