I expect to spend the next few years working primarily on the rigorous construction and analysis of various classes of models used in condensed matter physics. Modern mathematical models used to study the behaviour of large systems of particles (like crystals or gases) at low temperatures are so complex that, in practice, it is only possible to make predictions based on them by introducing radical approximations. My research attempts to make a sufficiently thorough analysis of the models to be able to judge the validity of the approximations.
