英文摘要
The conventional telecom fibers can find vast usages in many other areas of applications. In this research program advanced light scattering physics is investigated for the purpose of generating transforming applications. When a light is injected into a fiber it can be scattered via the quantum acoustic energy unit (phonons) such that outgoing lights are correspondingly shifted in their energies. Two quantum incident photons possessing the right energy and momentum they could simultaneously interact with a coherent quantum pair of phonons thus giving rise a pair of quantum entangled photons. This fiber compatible quantum entangled photon pair source can be used to build communication channels with absolute security according to quantum mechanics communication protocol. Secure communication between government agencies, financial institutions and other organizations of high societal importance will make public more safe. Another direction of this research program is to construct frequency spectrum magnifying microscope via fiber's dispersion and nonlinear properties. Like usual microscope that magnifies spatial features otherwise unable to be seen with naked eye. This kind of frequency spectrum microscope will enable scientists to investigate fine dynamic properties of systems like biological cell life cycles and chemical reactions. This type of time resolved frequency spectral microscope will give scientists new tools to find methods to treat various diseases, and even to discover more efficient ways of control chemical reactions. An ultra-narrow linewidth fiber laser based on random Rayleigh scattering is also proposed for this program which can be used in the area of optical metrology. Optical fiber laser cooling via anti-Stokes fluorescence will be investigated in normal and anomalous dispersive fibers.
