英文摘要
The International Linear Collider (ILC) project is expected to be the next world-wide particle physics facility. Its accelerators should collide electrons on positrons at energies from 500 GeV up to 1 TeV. While the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is discovering the Higgs and helps understand the origin of mass, the ILC will be essential in extending these discoveries and make precision measurements on the particles, their properties and modes of interactions. The facilities are highly complementary to each other and are both needed to probe and push the most fundamental theories of our physical world. Intensive world-wide efforts are currently pursued toward these objectives. Accelerator and detector design reports will be completed at the end of 2012 and the LHC has already announced the discovery of a particle which could be the Higgs. We should now converge towards a decision on the construction of the ILC. Novel calorimeters based on particle flow algorithm techniques and high granularity are being developed, prototypes are constructed and tested for the ILC detectors. These activities are coordinated by the international CALICE collaboration. We will achieve unprecedented jet energy resolution and actual particle calorimetry tracking. Canadians have joined CALICE in 2005 and have already contributed to the effort. We would like to be able to continue our work on calorimeter construction, test beams, data taking and physics analysis of the detector responses. The most important next steps are the participation to the measurements and their evaluation. This means intense data analysis to understand the detector and its electronics, its detailed response to the different type of particles, its calibration, energy and space resolutions to establish the final full scale design by the end of the grant time.
