Developing a new electromagnetic method to explore for copper-gold deposits in the Chapais district, Québec

There is no evident methodology for discovering disseminated copper-gold mineralization in the Chapais district of Québec. This project will involve a geological and geophysical compilation combined with measurements of physical properties on rock samples from drill holes and hand samples. This information is necessary to identify the locations or zones where these physical properties are anomalous and to see how these zones correlate with mineralization. The zones that are most anomalous will be used to design an innovative ground electromagnetic survey that can map three physical properties that might be associated with the mineralization. The survey will be used to estimate the conductivity, the chargeability and the anisotropy of the conductivity. If this additional information can map the geology, mineralization and/or alteration it will provide a new methodology to explore for copper-gold deposits in the Chapais district and possibly elsewhere. The project will train one MSc student and will be supported by two industrial partners: a company that explores in Chapais, Quebec and a company that manufactures geophysical equipment.
