The proposed CRD project, Next Generation EOC (Emergency Operations Centre), will focus on conceptualizing, designing and evaluating innovative software prototypes focused on public safety and emergency preparedness to support next generation EOCs. We will investigate the use of multi-surface technology, augmented reality, and visual analytics to support crisis management teams in public organizations as well as large corporations. Our industry partner, C4i Consultants Inc., will develop a new product line of emergency planning & operation tools based on the results and prototypes from the proposed project. C4i clients will be enabled to handle crisis situations more effectively and more efficiently, reducing overall societal costs. We consider our proposed research project innovative, with potential for significant contribution to the scientific field as well as high commercial potential. The project will investigate and create new technologies to support emergency response planning and operation. To support crisis management teams, we will investigate multi-surface technology, analytics and wearable computing approaches. To enhance the handling of future emergencies, we will develop technology for a-posteriori analysis of data gathered during an emergency and feed the lessons learned into training exercises. From a global perspective, this project will strengthen Canada's ICT industry, and will enhance C4i's access to international markets by providing the base for leading edge products, that are both translatable and re-usable across various platforms and cultures.
