The proposed research project is a partnership between researchers at the University of British Columbia, under the leadership of Dr. Jonathan F. Holzman, and engineers at SkyTrac Systems Ltd. in Kelowna, BC. The proposed research project will introduce key data-fusion technologies to satellite communication systems being used for flight positioning. The data-fusion upgrades will bring about enhanced performance levels for this positioning, with accuracies and update rates that surpass comparable transceivers on the market and rival far more complex (and expensive) differential or dual frequency global positioning system transceivers. The developed satellite communication transceiver will be a forerunner in new flight data monitoring and automated flight following systems.
