项目摘要

The increasing demand for electric power over the last decades has urged the high voltage apparatus to operate at full load while the power system utilities are expected to provide high quality and reliable electric power. In order to avoid power outages and disturbances caused by equipment failures and outages, online, distributed, and low-cost condition monitoring, diagnostics, and protection are crucial in modern power systems. Passive, wireless sensors are emerging devices to enhance the existing condition-monitoring methods. These sensors do not require an internal power source. They are activated and interrogated by an external source of energy. Using an interrogator, a signal is transmitted to the sensor and the received signal reflected from the sensor is analyzed that contains information collected by the sensor. The objective of this project is to design, build, and test a switched oscillator that will significantly improve the performance of the interrogation system currently used by the researchers. Availability of the novel, passive, wireless sensors (that are also developed by the same research team) and the improved interrogation system will enhance power system utilities ability to monitor the condition of their high voltage equipment and systems.
