The global market for civilian applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) has grown substantially in the past decade and is reliably forecast to reach $4.8 billion worldwide by 2021. High growth rates are occurring in new markets driven by the need to manage the Earth's resources. Competitive challenges arise from different types of aerial platforms, sensor packages, complex geomatics technologies, changing regulatory environments, and image/privacy issues. Increasingly, UAV vendors and small service companies understand that civilian customers want the option of purchasing geomatics data and information services rather than investing directly in the equipment. There is an urgent need for Canadian UAV companies to offer clients the extraction of meaningful geomatics knowledge from large UAV datasets. A partnership with leading university geomatics specialists is essential in this environment. This project will develop company-specific UAV geomatics solutions to support precision agriculture and forest operations information needs in Canada. The goal is to
provide ING Robotic Aviation with smart new image analysis tools necessary to maximize the use of the Responder UAV in vegetation stress-detection and object-based classification. This project intends to solve the company-specific problem of providing value to agriculture and forestry clients of the Responder through automated and customized geomatics analysis and data integration.
