The goals of this project are to develop (1) a practical methodology to categorize different gold ores based on the mineralogy, and (2) an effective method to determine the optimum method for gold recovery from gold ores and concentrates. The project will focus on treatment of difficult-to-treat ores. Most of the ores in this group have sulphide phases in their structure. These ores may also contain penalty elements which lower the value of the concentrate. Arsenic, a toxin, is an example of a penalty element. If not treated with proper processes, the penalty elements may be released into the environment and contaminate the air and soil in the vicinity of the mine sites. Thus, the development of processes that are optimized to the feeds from each mine is crucial to ensure the maximum yield with the minimum environmental impact.
As a result of this project, XPS Consulting & Testwork Services will be able to provide their clients a more detailed description of the gold ore and outcome from processing. In addition, XPS would also be able to recommend the most economical, sustainable, and environmentally responsible process for gold extraction to their Canadian and international clients.
