GreenForest Management Inc (GFMI) has been capturing basic forestry field data for years but with the need for greater access to information, current forest resource sampling practices are insufficient for predicting wood fibre quality and the demand for value added products. This causes issues to properly evaluate the forest which makes collecting the right data even more important. Thus being able to cost effectively collect additional values is an obstacle that GFMI wishes to overcome. Therefore this project is to customize the stem data capture technology with spatial reference that the Lakehead University Wood Science and Testing Facility (LUWSTF) group has been developing by integrating it with GFMI's spatial application Gerema. This will create a customized data capture prototype application that is an all encompassing data capture, analysis, modeling, reporting and mapping program for forest resource sampling. Integrating wood properties with
traditional forest inventory will boost the competitiveness of Canada's forest industries and also provide a new source of detailed information relating to our forest resource that can be used to promote the sector to new investment and new markets.
