英文摘要
The project is focused on the evaluation of the suitability of the Rio Tinto Metallic Powders (RTMP)
low-carbon steel powders as a feedstock for the rapidly growing sector of additive manufacturing (AM). Two
powder-bed AM technologies will be compared in the framework of this study: selective laser melting and
binder jetting. Two main aspects of these competing processes will be assessed: a) the influence of the RTMP
powder morphology and particle size distribution on the printed components' microstructure and mechanical
properties, and b) the production costs. It is anticipated that a combination of low-energy-cost RTMP powders
with the buy-to-fly ratio reduction capacity of AM technologies would benefit both the industry and the
environment.
