The project is focused on the evaluation of the suitability of the PyroGenesis titanium alloys powders as afeedstock for the rapidly growing sector of additive manufacturing (AM). The AM technology used in thisstudy is the laser powder-bed metal fusion (LPBF) technology.Two alloys will be processed using the LPBF technology: a) Ti64 and TiAl (gamma titanium aluminide). Thisselection is based on the intent of the company to minimize the project risk-to-benefit ratio. On one hand, Ti64is the most largely used titanium alloy, and the technology readiness level related to this alloy LPBFmanufacturing is high. On the other hand, TiAl belongs to an emerging class of high temperaturetitanium-based intermetallics, and this alloy is not yet available on the powder feedstock market.The deliverables of the project are: a) mechanical and geometric characteristics of Ti64 LPBF-builtcomponents; b) set of optimized parameters for laser fusion of TiAl powders, and c) production costs of Ti64and TiAl powders.
