Control valve is the most commonly used final control element in control loop that manipulates a flowing fluid,
such as gas, steam, or chemical compounds, to compensate for the load disturbance and bring the actual output
closer to the desired reference point. It has been widely used in Industrial Automation, Process Control
Industry, Chemical, Electrical Power Generation, Fertilizer, Food Processing, Petro-Chemical, Mining, Natural
Gas Liquefaction, Oil and Gas, Oil Refining, Potable and Waste Water, Pulp and Paper Industry to make the
process more profitable and to conserve energy. Control valve essentially consists of a valve body and an
actuator. Many styles of control valve bodies, such as globe body valve, have been developed to date. One
important factor used when selecting a valve type for a given application is the flow characteristic. It is the
relationship between the control valve opening and the flow rate through valve. There are other important
factors, such as head loss, that should be considered in making the final valve selection. Sizing a control valve
means selecting a valve with the correct size orifice to pass the required flow rate within a certain range. The
style and the sizing of the valve can play an important role in the performance of the control valve in the
system. Choosing the right control valve is not an easy task, and good engineering judgment must go into the
practice of valve assembly sizing and selection. A thorough knowledge of the process operating conditions that
the valve will operate in is essential for the correct sizing and selection, and we propose a development of
software platform for optimal valve sizing and selection.
