Foundry Spatial Ltd. offers full service mapping and geographical analysis for natural resource companies. Climate change is leading to greater variability in hydrological systems, creating challenges for managing water resources. To gain a competitive market edge, Foundry Spatial Ltd. would like to expand its Water Analytics platform to include forecasting of monthly and seasonal water supply. In this proposed research project, Foundry Spatial Ltd. would collaborate with Dr. Farouk Nathoo of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Uvic) to develop modeling tools for forecasting water supply or runoff. Dr. Nathoo will use advanced statistics to integrate historical water gauge and climate data into models to predict hydrological flow. The use of advanced statistics-machine learning and Bayesian statistics-will overcome many of the key limitations that currently exist with water flow forecasting.
