Simpli Innovations Inc. has developed a platform that offers the simplicity and convenience of a portable telephone in a tablet format. Targeted specifically to the elderly to communicate with family and caregivers, this tablet offers video calls in a radically simplified format than is currently available in off-the-shelf platforms. This platform is functionally well developed, but its interface for both users and caregiver/administrators needs further research and design to address this market. Simpli is partnering with the Health Design Lab to engage in human-centred research that will inform a revised interface design for the two main user groups: the elderly, and family members. The primary needs of the elderly are for a simplified interface that allows for easy video communication. Family members/caregivers will use the interface to communicate, but also to customize, configure, and maintain the system remotely. Different interfaces may be needed to support these needs.
