The objective of this project is to research and develop game designs that will build user engagement around
Immersive Systems Corp.'s Telepresence Robot Platform product. The Telepresence Robot Platform is an
educational system of robots that can be controlled over the internet. At this stage in the technology's
development, the Telepresence Robot Platform requires further refinement and investigation into the games
that virtually connect the robots with their remote users. Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECUAD) is
proposing to create a partnership with Immersive Systems Corp. that will apply our expertise in game design,
user interface design, and user experience towards the creation of these games.. Research topics will also
include physical set design, augmented reality narrative techniques, the connection of physical spaces and
virtual spaces through games, and character design. The creation of compelling and provocative game designs
will enable Immersive Systems Corp. to attract more users to the Telepresence Robot Platform project and to
showcase their product as a new online platform for connecting companies and research groups. The project
will contribute to the overall capacity of Immersive Systems Corp, helping them to reach their ultimate goal of
becoming a hub for robotic communities on a worldwide scale. For ECUAD, the project is an opportunity to
investigate the connection between physical spaces and virtual computer generated spaces using game design
and game play, while developing the university's research lab in gaming, simulation and gamification. Students
participating in the project will gain professional game design and game production experience.
