Chemometric tools for NMR-based diagnostics

Nanalysis is a small Canadian company that produces a bench-top nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instrument. This instrument is portable, rugged, low cost, and cryogen-free. It is an interesting and attractive analytical platform for a variety of applications, such as field-based diagnostics and testing in areas such as food quality, agriculture, metabolomics, fuels, and petroleum. This research project will develop tools for rapidly converting the data collected by this instrumentation into useful information for niche applications in the areas of food oil analysis (canola, corn, olive, etc) and petroleum/biodiesel characterization using algorithms and expertise in the Harynuk Group at the Univesity of Alberta. This will in turn generate new business solutions that Nanalysis can offer. This will allow the company to grow. Additionally, this research will develop a generic toolkit that can be used by Nanalysis, to rapidly develop custom diagnostic solutions for food, fuel, health, and environmental analyses based on their instrumentation platform into the future.
