The proposed collaboration project between Anethum Corporation and my research group aims at determining
an optimal building envelope for a "Growing Centre" facility. The overall objective of this Growing Centre is
to increase crop quantity and quality, to increase resource efficiency, to reduce crop weather risks, and to
support secure, reliable, and economical technology. The building envelope design of this centre can
significantly affect the indoor conditions, and therefore the agricultural performance.
The project will focus on estimating the effect of design parameters such as the building envelope composition,
technology integration, and the overall scale on the indoor conditions.
The proposed collaboration is a new relationship between Anethum Corporation and my group. The expertise
of my research group in the design and analysis of high performance building envelope will assist Anathum
Corporation in finding solutions regarding optimal envelope system design for their crop Growing Centres.
This collaboration is mutually beneficial, as my group is interested in developing guidelines for design of
optimal building envelopes to achieve ideal indoor conditions for crop-growing while balancing between
energy efficiency and energy generation.
This research will provide Anethum Corporation with recommendations on best performing innovative
envelopes, and the optimal combination of technologies to improve growing conditions. Moreover, this
research can potentially provide a competitive edge to Canadian industry to develop optimized multi-scale
envelope systems, for indoor agriculture that can be used in Canada as well as exported to other countries.
Anethum
Anathum
