项目摘要

Lithium is an increasingly important metal resource, especially within the context of expanding electrical energy storage requirements as the world seeks to transition to sustainable energy sources. As the primary ingredient in the most effective and broadly-applicable high energy-density battery technology (lithium ion and lithium air batteries), the increasing need for lithium as raw material has spawned increasing attention. We have previously developed robust analytical methods for the quantification of lithium in homogeneous brines, but these methods need to be optimized and expanded to allow for efficient quantification of lithium in heterogeneous brines. Furthermore, we seek to explore potentially new approaches to lithium separation for environmentally-sustainable extraction of lithium from brine deposits.
