The science and technology developed along the quest for artificial intelligence (AI) have advanced remarkably in recent years, as is obvious from the now ubiquitous offerings of technology companies, boasting impressive computer vision capabilities (that driverless cars will rely on), automatic speech recognition and language translation. These breakthroughs arose from novel techniques to successfully train deep artificial neural networks on massive data.
