NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Source Water Quality Monitoring and Advanced/Emerging Technologies for Drinking Water Treatment

This NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Source Water Quality and Advanced Drinking Water Treatment is held by Robert C. Andrews (Senior Chairholder) and Ron Hofmann (Associate Chairholder) of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Toronto. The research focuses on two important areas: (i) New methods for assessing the microbial quality of source waters and linking source water quality to treatment objectives; and (ii) Evaluating and optimizing advanced technologies for drinking water treatment. For the first research area, the focus of the Chair is to examine how microbial source water quality impacts subsequent treatment processes and how improved knowledge of source water quality can be integrated into treatment operations. The second area of research is to examine advanced technologies for meeting current challenges faced in the water industry. These include novel new treatments and new ways of applying existing treatments, with research focuses on advanced oxidation, membranes, granular activated carbon, ferrate, and computer applications.
