Determining accurate geological boundaries and domains is critical for a sound implementation of any numerical model applied to mineral or petroleum reserves. Complex geological environments are difficult to model but there are a number of techniques available based on the geological depositional environment. The work explores a number of improvements to current modeling techniques, specifically, multiple point statistics (MPS) and object/process based modeling (OBM) to reproduce very complex geological features in categorical and continuous variable geostatistical models. These improvements will lead to more accurate reservoir forecasting and improved reservoir management decision making. The benefit in modeling is demonstrated on a number of real reservoirs and deposits provided by the supporting organizations.
