Radial-growth analysis on the Mistik land base under future climate change scenarios

In order to better understand the potential impact of future climatic conditions on the forestry industry of Saskatchewan and on the forests that they manage, a holistic understanding of the relationship between past and future climates, tree growth, and their impact on above ground biomass is required. In all of the projected alterations to the future climate, some tree species will undoubtedly be winners, and others will be losers under the various climate change scenarios. Fifteen distinct stands of old growth forest selected across the forest management area of Mistik Management Ltd. will be tested using the five species most commonly growing on the landscape [white spruce (Picea glauca); black spruce (Picea mariana); jack pine (Pinus banksiana); Balsam fir (Abies balsamea); and, trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides)].
