The objective of this proposal is to study the effects of probiotic administration on stress reactivity and anxiety-like behaviour following exposure to an immune challenge in pubertal and adult male and female mice. This project involves a new collaboration between Lyo-San inc. and Dr. Nafissa Ismail, researcher at the University of Ottawa. Lyo-San inc. is a Canadian family business that specializes in the lyophilization of dairy cultures and probiotics designed to make homemade yogurts and kefir (fermented milk), sold under the brand name Yogourmet. Their probiotic cultures are intended to benefit digestive and immune health. The collaboration will aim to determine if the addition of Bifidobacterium Lactis, currently sold by Lyo-San inc. only in Japan, to their kefir commercialized in Canada, will provide beneficial effects beyond digestion and immune function. More precisely, the objective of the collaboration is to examine the effect of a new probiotic treatment during puberty on mental health and underlying neural mechanisms.
LYO-San inc.
