Bay Steel is an private company mainly working in fabrication, maintenance and industrial construction for oiland gas, marine and utility sectors. To better serve the industries, the company is working on the developmentof an innovative anchor device. The device is supposed to use multiple steel piles which penetrate into theocean floor through hydro-static force. Once it is deployed properly, the anchoring force will be provided byboth piles and suction. Therefore it is expected to work more effectively on sandy ocean floor where traditionalsuction anchors may not be effective. In addition to being an anchor, it is also targeted being used as ablow-out prevention device for offshore oil and gas industry. Through working with the team at MemorialUniversity, the feasibility of this device will be checked first. Then an theoretical analysis with a typicalapplication will be made to obtain the capacity. A prototype will also be designed for future tests. Given theextreme importance of the relevant industries to Canada, the success development of an effective, economicalanchoring device would be beneficial to the whole country.
