项目摘要

Hydro-Québec is a public utility that manages the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity inQuebec. The company is actively involved in transportation electrification, most notably by developing anetwork of public fast-charging stations designed to complement stations at home and at work. Currently, thereare 942 public charging stations in Quebec that support more than 14,000 electric vehicles. Given the relativelylow cost and widespread availability of electricity in Québec, electric vehicles have been identified by thegovernment of Québec as a critical means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province. In particular, thegovernment aims to increase the number of electric vehicles in Québec to 100,000 by 2020. This goal can onlybe achieved if a significant number of public charging stations are deployed across the territory. In this context,Hydro-Québec has to make crucial decisions about the development of its charging network to successfullyincrease the adoption of electric vehicles by the population. These decisions include: How many publiccharging stations should be added to the current network? Where should these additional stations be located?How many charging stations should be added at each location? What should be the cost of charging at thesestations? This six-month Engage project is a first step in addressing these issues.
