For a medication to be effective, it must be able to reach its target. One of the greatest challenges for manydrugs is that their targets lie inside cells. Indeed, cells are surrounded by a membrane that keeps manymolecules out - including drugs. Even the most powerful drug will be ineffective if it cannot reach its target.Feldan Therapeutics Inc. has developed a technology, termed the Feldan shuttle, which facilitates the transferof several types of drugs into cells. They now face a technological challenge, associated with the stability of theShuttle in blood, that they cannot resolve themselves. As such, Feldan Therapeutics Inc. has approached ProfMarc A Gauthier of the INRS to investigate structural alterations to the Shuttle and the influence of thesemodifications on: 1) the physical nature of complexes formed with therapeutic cargo, and 2) their interactionwith blood proteins.
