Stash Energy is currently working on an energy storage technology in collaboration with Summerside Electric,which is a power utility in Prince Edward Island with the highest level of integration of wind energy in NorthAmerica. They have already shown evidence of scalability and commercial viability of this technology. Thisenergy storage system uses phase change materials (PCM) which has many challenges that may restrict theproduct's growth. Therefore, further research is required to improve the technology.It is proposed to explore alternative methods of energy storage in Dr. F. Handan Tezel's Energy-SMART lab inthe Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of Ottawa, in Stash's energy storagesystem. This research will assist Stash Energy in developing their next line of products. In turn, Stash Energywill be better positioned to have a significant impact and to expand their market share in Canada andinternationally, which will also generate jobs for scientists, engineers, and technicians in Canada. Thedevelopment of this technology has a potential to substantially reduce the greenhouse gases (GHG) in Canadaand if implemented internationally, all over the world.
