The proposed project is to establish feasibility of fluorescence imaging of bacterial load in vivo and toinvestigate the possibility of quantification of bacteria present. The main research challenges are (1) theidentification of the optimal excitation with potential for assessment of bacterial load in realistic settings, and(2) demonstrate the usefulness of the fluorescence imaging system for bacterial load visualization in anon-invasive manner. To this end endogenous fluorescence imaging has the capacity to assess bacterial load forclinically-relevant bacteria. Our group has significant expertise in the area of microbial surfaces and theutilization of fluorescence spectroscopy to study those systems. This collaboration would help Oxilightdeveloping fluorescence imaging modality complementary to its multispectral imaging device.
